Meeting for Sufferings: Quakers in Britain
A paper on use of the term 'Quakers in Britain' was prepared for Meeting for Sufferings
A paper addressing concerns raised by Cambridgeshire Area Meeting about use of the phrase ‘Quakers in Britain’ was prepared by the Recording Clerk’s Office for Meeting for Sufferings.
It stated that: ‘We are clear that the term “Quakers in Britain” can appropriately be used for public statements… At the same time, we have been helped to identify some inconsistencies and inappropriate use of the term, leading to a review and clarified guidance for staff.’
The paper explained steps that had been taken and clarified both the formal and more relaxed names for the church, charity and annual Yearly Meeting event.
Anne Ullathorne, the clerk of Sufferings, invited contributions from representatives but there was no comment from the floor.
