Meeting for Sufferings: Quaker Recognised Bodies pilot

Four organisations register under new scheme

by Elinor Smallman 9th December 2016

The first four groups registering as ‘Quaker Recognised Bodies’ were accepted by Meeting for Sufferings.

Quaker Recognised Bodies replaces the Listed Informal Groups arrangement to clarify links between external groups with strong Quaker links and Britain Yearly Meeting.

Living Witness, Quaker Disability Equality Group (QDEG), Quaker Values in Education (QVinE) and Quaker Action of Alcohol and Drugs (QAAD) took part in the pilot of the new scheme as all were established Listed Informal Groups and had a linked member of staff at Friends House.

Friends enquired about the practical details of the new scheme, the responsibilities of the Yearly Meeting and how future groups would be approached. Another Friend asked how smoothly the pilot had gone and praised the clear information presented to the Meeting.

Anne Ullathorne, assistant clerk of Meeting for Sufferings, reminded Friends of the extensive discernment at December 2015’s residential Meeting and the papers agreed at the May 2016 Meeting.

Sufferings agreed to register the four groups as Quaker Recognised Bodies, due for review before the end of 2021.
