Meeting for Sufferings: ‘Get on your bikes’ for the common good

Meeting for Sufferings heard details of a minute from Kendal & Sedbergh Area Meeting

Friends are invited to ‘get on their bikes’ in the summer of 2018. Meeting for Sufferings on 2 December heard details of a minute from Kendal & Sedbergh Area Meeting (AM) regarding the group ‘For the Common Good’. There was an important update about the ‘Ride for Equality and the Common Good’, which seeks to raise welfare issues. The date has been moved from Easter to the start of the school summer holidays, 21 July-4 August.

A Friend from Kendal & Sedbergh AM told Sufferings that there had been a movement of emphasis from ‘what can Quakers do to what can we as Quakers do?’

The Friend said the group ‘want to engage with others to gather stories of those affected by welfare cuts’ with the aim of ‘bringing concerns to a wider audience… This is always a communication issue for us,’ the Friend said. ‘How do you make others aware of what’s going on?’

The ride, which is intended to include various modes of transport, will pass through twelve Area Meetings.

The route, Sufferings was informed, is ‘a bit fluid… The route may move if it is required to move it.’
