Meeting for Sufferings: End to overseers
QLCC clerk says term is ‘hurtful and must be changed’
Further change came with a Quaker Life Central Committee (QLCC) minute asking Friends to stop using the term ‘overseer’. It was ‘hurtful and must be changed’ said the QLCC clerk.
One Friend was concerned that different Meetings would use different terms, since there was no single nominated replacement, but another pointed out that experimentation locally didn’t mean Friends would be unable to settle on one common word eventually.
MfS united with QLCC’s discernment.
