7 December was Anne Ullathorne's last Meeting for Sufferings as clerk

Assistant clerk Margaret Bryan reminded Friends that ‘this Meeting marks the end of Anne [Ullathorne]’s service as clerk of Meeting for Sufferings (MfS), having been the assistant clerk for three years beforehand and having had service on the committee as a rep’.

MfS minuted its thanks for her service. In response, Anne said: ‘Friends, I just wanted to say how much I have valued and appreciated being part of this worshipping community, and all the work that we’ve done together over the last years. I always think to myself that it’s wonderful because it’s all of you. You are the Meeting, you are the people who are reading the papers. You care about Quakers, you care about the spiritual life of others. We’re looking for that of God in each other. These are the essential things, the really important things that we need to almost trumpet from the rooftops. So I wanted to just say that, a big thanks to you.’

Anne concluded by asking Friends to ‘Love one another. Bear one another’s burdens’ and with a quote from Thessalonians 3: ‘May the Lord of peace…give you peace at all times and in all ways. The Lord be with all of you.’
