Meeting for Sufferings: Citizen’s Income
Friends encouraged to take an interest in a Citizen's Income
Friends were encouraged, in the Meeting for Sufferings held at Woodbrooke on 3 February, to take an interest in the subject of a Citizen’s Income.
A concern of South East Scotland Area Meeting had been raised in a minute to Meeting for Sufferings in 2012. It had been agreed, at central level, that support be given to Anne Miller, of SE Scotland AM, to promote discussion of the citizen’s income among Friends.
The original minute from SE Scotland AM stated that a ‘Citizen’s Income (CI) is universal, based on the individual, is unconditional and non-selective, and would be delivered automatically to those who qualify. A full CI would be sufficient to live on modestly.’ The minute also tied the CI to reform of the tax system, suggested some of the benefits of its introduction, and linked it to the testimony to equality.
