Meeting for Sufferings: British Friends visit to Dublin
Friends from Britain and Ireland met to grapple with common issues
Meeting for Sufferings, on 3 June, heard of a visit held on 6 May by representatives of Britain Yearly Meeting to Quaker House in Dublin where they met with representatives of Ireland Yearly Meeting. Among those present were the clerk and assistant clerk of Ireland Yearly Meeting, Heather Bewley and Bairbre Nic Aongusa, and Deborah Rowlands, clerk of Britain Yearly Meeting.
Sufferings heard a minute of the visit and that Friends had come to ‘worship together, share our experiences of the life of our Quaker communities, explore common issues and support one another.’
The minute reported that the discussions had been wide ranging and that common ground was found and many concerns shared. A common interest of both Yearly Meetings at the moment was that of ‘grappling with what membership means today, and how to support attenders in their journey’.
