A fungal infection has caused a much-loved tree to be removed from Friends House garden

The much-loved magnolia tree in the garden at Friends House is to be replaced. The tree graced the lawn outside the building for some years but had languished in a corner during renovation works.

Paul Grey, Friends House Hospitality chief executive officer, said that the tree was suffering from coral spot, a fungal infection with the potential to spread throughout the garden. Paul said that the decision to replace the tree ‘was not taken without a great deal of regret’.

He told the Friend: ‘We are sourcing a new magnolia to match the other one that we have already planted in the east border.’
