Luton Meeting House part of ‘Peace Walk’
Luton Meeting House will be part of the town's 'Peace Walk' in 22 September
Luton Friends are to open up their Meeting house as part of the route for the annual Luton ‘Peace Walk’, that will take place on 22 September.
The Peace walk, now in its twenty-second year, is the culmination of a programme of peace-themed activities run with nine local schools at Key Stage Two level. Students’ work is showcased along the route, which includes Luton Salvation Army, University Chaplaincy Tree House and BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir.
Ryad Khodabocus, community relations development officer with Luton Council of Faiths, who organise the walk, told the Friend that activities will include ‘our popular faith leaders’ assembly, where a panel of faiths leaders go into schools as a united front and talk to them about their faiths, and how, despite being different, they are still friends’.
Students were also shown projects where people collaborate ‘for the greater good’, as well ‘multi-faith storytelling’ from Khayaal Theatre. They also made a ‘peace bracelet’, using upcycling materials to raise awareness of plastic and trash.
There is a ‘young person’s event’ in St George’s Square, where the Peace Walk begins.
