Looking at ‘the red book’

Harry Albright writes about the work of the Revision Preparation Group for Quaker faith & practice

‘We are seekers but we are also the holders of a precious heritage of discoveries. We, like every generation, must find the Light and Life again for ourselves. Only what we have valued and truly made our own, not by assertion but by lives of faithful commitment, can we hand on to the future. Even then, we must humbly acknowledge that our vision of the truth will, again and again, be amended.’  From the introduction to Quaker faith & practice

Quaker faith & practice
(the ‘red book’) is our current book of discipline. It is a collection of practical and spiritual guidance and insight that supports our worship and witness as a Quaker community. It is for our comfort, and for our discomfort: offering direction in practical and legal matters; recording and exploring our religious heritage and varieties of spiritual experience; inspiring and challenging us to deepen our Quaker worship and witness.
