London Quakers uphold sex and gender diversity
'We seek a brave Quaker space where each of us can discuss their thoughts and ideas and raise questions without concerns about contention or criticism.’
London Quakers have organised a third session on the topic of ‘Sex and Gender Diversity’. The day on 24 March follows two previous sessions last June and December.
Fred Ashmore, clerk of London Quakers, told the Friend: ‘The previous two sessions were well attended and had lots of positive responses in the feedback – as well as some criticism! Participants seem to particularly value a “brave space”, a meeting where they can say things that are often really difficult, and talk about topics which are controversial, with confidence that they will not be bullied or browbeaten or dismissed.’
The online gathering, called ‘Still True To Thine Own Self,’ will include participants with much experience of sex and gender diversity issues, and those with ‘rather little experience’, according to the London Quakers calendar. ‘We want our discernment to arise from those who come to join us, so we invite all registrants to identify questions in advance that they would like to hear discussed… We seek a brave Quaker space where each of us can discuss their thoughts and ideas and raise questions without concerns about contention or criticism.’

Please let us always remember to respect women’s wishes and needs and sense of identity, and their need for safe spaces (sometimes mocked and rejected), and their worry about biological males (whatever their pre-op or post-op state or declared gender) entering these spaces. This does not equate with transphobia.
