Friends consider progress towards forming a London Area Meeting

by Rebecca Hardy 29th November 2024

Around 150 London Friends met last month to consider progress towards forming a London Area Meeting (AM).

The gathering at Friends House and online on 5 October attracted more Quakers than the previous events, with all AMs represented, and all Local Meetings (LMs) invited.

Tim Heath, clerk of Joint London AMs Arrangements Group, said: ‘It was clear that Friends still had many questions about the project to create an Area Meeting for London and it was good to be able to use the time to listen to those points of view. It did mean we didn’t make as much progress as planned, but there was unity that more threshing is needed.’

The Development Group and AM clerks are responding in several ways. These include organising an online session ‘to hear qualms and queries’ at 7pm on 4 December. They have also formed an Arrangements Group to prepare for the next meeting of the seven London AMs in February. The Development Group will also publicise some answers to frequently-asked questions. Members are ready to come to LMs and AMs to engage with Friends on the issue. Clerks should contact Gillian Ashmore at ashmoregillian@gmail.com, if they wish to take up this offer.
