Llandrindod Quakers have donated funds to help set up a community kitchen for local food enterprises.

Llandrindod Quakers have donated funds to help set up a community kitchen for local food enterprises.

The kitchen will be based at the Hive, which is the hub for the Llandrindod Wells Working Together (LWWT) project.

Local Friends presented staff at LWWT with a cheque for £1,000 to purchase equipment for the kitchen.

Quaker Angela Coleridge said that she ‘congratulated LWWT on all they have already achieved in resourcing local initiatives. A commercial kitchen can really stimulate the local economy, providing the work and business opportunities for local food production’.

Becky Webb, who runs the Hive, said: ‘We are really grateful for the support from the local Quaker group which enables us to have a fully functioning commercial kitchen available for the local community to use. This is a much-needed resource in the local area and there are already people queuing up to use the space and resources on offer.’

The funding will be used to fit out the kitchen with a range of equipment and appliances so that it is suitable for use by food micro-businesses, training and for community events. There are already a number of projects currently based at the Hive including a baby bank, uniform exchange and Library of Things.

Llandrindod Meeting has been involved with the community for many years. The Meeting house has been rented by Adult Learning Wales (ALW) to provide English Language teaching to the Syrian refugee families in the town. ALW is now taking on a lease for the Meeting house in order to offer much more training and skills building for the community.

The local Quakers said they look forward to working closely with ALW and the Hive, which fits with the Quaker commitment to social justice, sustainability and inclusion.
