Twentieth anniversary of Litchfield Meeting to coincide with International Conscientious Objectors Day

by The Friend Newsdesk 9th May 2014

This year the twentieth anniversary of Litchfield Local Meeting coincides with International Conscientious Objectors Day. Local Friends are recognising both events with activities next week.  Anthony Wilson, of Lichfield Meeting and the Quaker Service Memorial Trust, said that Friends were marking International Conscientious Objectors Day by gathering at the Quaker Service Memorial in the National Memorial Arboretum near Alrewas, Staffordshire, at 3.00pm on 15 May.

He explained: ‘Others are welcome to join us, gathering at the entrance at 2.30pm. If using a buggy is easier than making the fifteen minute walk, please ring 01543 258016 to arrange this.’

Anthony said that Friends will also be reflecting on Nakba [Catastrophe] Day for the Holy Land, drawing particularly on the Jewish Voice for Peace website for its sympathetic presentation.
