From change to resource sharing

Time for change

David Holmes (7 September) alleges that we are going to the dogs since (inter alia) the recording clerk has become a chief executive, so can no longer be a servant. Nonsense. Every recording clerk has always been a chief executive, whether responsible for three or 300 others. And every good chief executive in any organisation cannot be good without being a servant. Jennifer Barraclough, ex-director of Woodbrooke, was a good chief executive by serving the institution, its staff, its clients and the Society. Some people’s service is to give orders.
