From Measured language to Membership and simplicity

Measured language

I have been following the correspondence about Israel/Palestine with great interest, and let it rest in my mind alongside many other reports I’ve read and heard since visiting that troubled area in 1966.

I was particularly moved by the letter from Lynn and Dave Morris of Stourbridge Meeting (11 November). Their measured language and their plea to be heard in love comes at an especially difficult time after the recent Israel election results.

The arms trade

I am sure many Friends are as concerned as I am about the arms trade.

I am thinking of the UK selling arms to Israel, but also to Saudi Arabia with which the UK is in a coalition.

Saudi Arabia has been bombing Yemen, including civilian targets, for over eight years.

In that time the UK has supplied £23 billion worth of arms to Saudi Arabia.

While the Houthis there have also been bombing the country, it is only Saudi Arabia which has used weaponry made in Britain.

There is now a humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen with people lacking food and shelter, and disease spreading.

The situation is rarely mentioned in the mainstream media. We need to call for our government to stop these sales.

The Campaign Against Arms Trade has called for a day of action, Solidarity with Yemen, on Saturday 3 December when we can highlight the offices and sites of military manufacturing companies involved in the trade.
