Leeds Quakers become ‘dementia friends’
Dementia topic for talk
Friends at Carlton Hill Meeting House in Leeds recently addressed the subject of dementia when a Meeting for Worship was followed by a training session on the condition.
Gwen Oates of the Alzheimer’s Society led the session on 10 January. Over thirty members of Leeds Area Meeting took part. A number signed up to become ‘dementia friends’.
‘We disseminated a lot of important information. All positive and a lot available locally. I felt it was a significant pebble in a big pond of need,’ Philomena O’Hare of Carlton Hill Meeting said.
The dementia friends scheme involves learning about dementia and how to help sufferers.
Involvement ranges from telling people about the project to visiting those living with dementia. Members of New Earswick, Cotteridge and Harrogate Meetings have also signed up.
