Leaveners appoint artist-in-residence
The Leaveners' first artist-in-residence has been appointed
Quaker arts group the Leaveners has appointed its first artist-in-residence, Alex Goodman.
The appointment is part of a pilot programme being run in partnership with Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre, Birmingham. Alex is a Cornwall-based artist, printmaker and producer. She arrived at Woodbrooke on 26 January for a two-week stay.
‘Alex will be producing a contemporary artwork in response to an aspect of Quakerism, Quaker values and/or the historical relationship of the Quaker community to the city of Birmingham,’ Leaveners’ director Adam Clarke told the Friend.
As the first artist-in-residence, Alex will begin by researching the residency brief. She will then create an artwork, probably a print, for exhibition in Birmingham following her residency. Alex will blog about her experiences over the course of the residency.
The Leaveners hope to run a minimum of two residencies a year. The aim, Adam explained, is to ‘create a new artist-in-residence programme for Birmingham that will showcase emerging artistic talent from the visual arts across the UK’.
