Leaping for 25 years
'Leap Confronting Conflict' celebrates its anniversary
LEAP Confronting Conflict has celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary. The charity works with young people and adults to manage conflict and prevent violence in young people’s lives, schools and community.
Alec Davison, a Friend and one of the founders of LEAP, said: ‘Leap has been extremely successful. It’s grown from a small organisation into something with national and international links. Its materials have been translated into a range of languages.’
Alec said that Leap has been guided by Quaker testimonies: ‘The whole thing is an exploration of the peace testimony. All the conflict resolution would be in that area.’
Leap has also been guided by the equality testimony. Alec added: ‘We work with people who are poor or marginalised and some of them may be in prison. The aim of Leap is to use drama techniques to help train people to cope with conflict in their own private lives.’
Leap’s twenty-fifth anniversary celebration was held last week at the Tower of London. ‘It was a paradox, that conflict resolution was taking place in an area associated with violence,’ Alec said. The aim was to celebrate young people’s achievements over the past twenty-five years.
