Launch of European QUIP
The first meeting of the European branch of QUIP took place on 26 May
A new branch of Quakers Uniting in Publications (QUIP) was launched on Thursday 26 May at Westminster Meeting House in London.
The event was organised by Jennifer Kavanagh, co-clerk of QUIP, and Chris Skidmore, assistant treasurer, to encourage greater interest from European Friends.
The main body of QUIP – which serves authors, editors, publishers, booksellers and desktop and website publishers – met in Richmond, Indiana, from 12-15 May. It meets in the UK every four years, and it is hoped that the new branch can foster greater interaction.
The meeting began with attendees explaining their involvement in publishing. This was followed by a talk by Geoffrey Durham on the challenge of being a public face for Quakers. During the lunch break the group enjoyed ‘pop-up’ poetry from two poets, Philip Gross and Peter Daniels. Britain Yearly Meeting recording clerk Paul Parker also spoke to the group.
