The Large Meeting House at Friends House officially reopened on Monday 10 November, following a £4.5 million renovation.

The refurbishment, which included a rebranding of the room as ‘The Light’, was carried out in the hope of making Friends House ‘a more versatile and sustainable building’ and ‘a major London conference centre’, Britain Yearly Meeting (BYM) said.

Speaking at the launch event, BYM recording clerk Paul Parker called the refurbished room ‘simple and sustainable’. It would ‘bring Quaker values to the heart of London’, he hoped.

Paul stressed that the revenue generated by events in The Light would help pay for Quaker work. He also thanked all of those involved in the project. Paul made special mention of the contractors, Westco, and Paul Grey, head of hospitality at Friends House.

Among the organisations who have already made bookings are the Criminal Law Friendly Society, Grace Baptist Mission and Birkbeck College, University of London.
