Kindertransport exhibition at Peace Museum

The Peace Museum in Bradford sheds light on a dramatic story

A new exhibition on the dramatic story of the Kindertransport opens at the Peace Museum in Bradford on Holocaust Memorial Day.

The story of the Kindertransport children is told in the exhibition through a selection of items and personal effects.

Suitcases belonging to two children who were evacuated to Britain prior to the outbreak of the second world war are among the highlights.

A special event to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day and to mark the opening of the display will be held on 27 January at the Peace Museum. The event, which begins at 5.30pm, will include three speakers and a film telling the story of Ursula Michel.

Almost 10,000 children, who were mainly Jewish, were brought on the Kindertransport to the UK in the late 1930s to escape Nazi persecution. Many never returned to Europe, as their families became victims of the Holocaust.

The display closes on Friday 7 April.
