Delicious cakes and morning tea were on the table in the new Garden Lounge at Woodbrooke on Friday 5 May as Kath Russell, head of centre development at the Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre in Birmingham, said goodbye to staff and handed over to her successor, Darrell Farnsworth.

Staff applauded a key moment of the handover when Kath passed over the spare fuse for the Woodbrooke fuse box to Sandra Berry, director of Woodbrooke.

During Kath’s fourteen years at Woodbrooke the Centre has become an established conference venue and a popular bed and breakfast destination. There have also been major developments in sustainability, such as the installation of solar panels and a thermal heating system, a significant library refurbishment and the restoration of the Victorian walled garden. The latest development has been the creation of the beautiful Garden Lounge.
