JRF highlights the costs of poverty
A new report at the JRF estimates the total cost of poverty in the UK to be around £78 billion
The Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) has issued a new report, Counting the cost of UK poverty, as part of its ‘Solve UK poverty’ campaign.
The report estimates the more tangible costs to the public purse of poverty, and concludes that the total cost of poverty in the UK is around £78 billion.
The public service costs of poverty amount to approximately £69 billion, with the knock-on effects of child poverty adding £6 billion more
The knock-on effects of adult poverty cost the country at least £2.7 billion.
