Quakers in Ireland express 'sympathy and support' to Friends in Britain

Ireland’s Yearly Meeting Committee has sent a letter to Friends in Britain expressing ‘sympathy and support following the tragic occurrences in recent weeks in your country.’

The letter states: ‘We have been saddened to hear of the loss of lives of people, young and old, and those left with shattered lives or loss of family members. The pictures on our television screens have horrified us. It is easy to feel helpless and angry, and at a loss to know how any person could choose to act in a way to cause so much harm to others; or to take chances which could have such awful consequences for residents in high rise apartments.

‘We pray that lessons may be learned and acted upon, and communities strengthened in their resolve to live together peacefully. We must all ask ourselves how we can contribute to making the world a fairer and safer place.’
