Ireland Yearly Meeting epistle

To Friends everywhere

Dear Friends We send greetings from Ireland Yearly Meeting held for the first time in Cork from 24th – 28th July 2013. Cork is a city rich in heritage located on the southern coast of Ireland. Part of this heritage has been the presence of Quakers from as early as the 1650s. Our founder George Fox visited Cork in 1669 and it was whilst living in Cork that William Penn became a Quaker. Cork Friends have contributed much to the life of their city. Along with other Irish Friends they are remembered for their response to the Great Famine in the 1840s. It was with great pleasure that Yearly Meeting accepted and have responded in considerable numbers to the invitation to come to Cork.
