Ireland Yearly Meeting was held for the first time at the headquarters of Irish Quakers at Stocking Lane in Dublin.

The event, over the weekend of 12-15 April, brought together more than one hundred and fifty Friends.

Highlights included the public lecture by Timothy Peat Ashworth, Biblical studies tutor at the Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre in Birmingham, a talk by Chris Holman, medical director of the Retreat at York, and the launch of ‘Quaker Life and Practice’.

The theme of the Yearly Meeting was ‘Building Community’. Subjects covered included mental health, sustainability and tax justice. A concern raised was the continued use of Shannon Airport as a re-fuelling base by the American military.

A significant report given was that of the Civil Partnership Group to Ireland Yearly Meeting,  which addressed the subject in a ‘spirit of openness and compassion’ and made a number of recommendations.
