A recent episode of Channel 4’s investigative current affairs programme Dispatches focused on the Cadbury chocolate firm, contrasting current business practices with those of its Quaker founders.

Deborah Cadbury told the interviewer that when the company was established, ‘everything was done so that people [the employees] could build up their security and build up their futures’.

She said of the ‘early chocolate pioneers’ that ‘the business in their eyes was something that should be used as a powerful force for good’.

The programme also featured a clip from Cadbury’s 1953 film The Bournville Story: A film of the factory in a garden.
