Quakers gear up to mark the International Day of Peace

Eccles Friends are gearing up for International Day of Peace with a celebration at their Meeting house on 21 September, designed to attract non-Quakers as well as Quakers.

The ‘open house’ includes contemplation time, children’s craft activities, structured conversations around peace, singing and a Meeting for Worship.

Wendy Olsen, clerk of Eccles Meeting, told the Friend: ‘The Meeting wanted to do more outreach, and it’s also driven by Sandra Dutson, a long-standing peace activist and newcomer to Quakerism.’

Central Manchester Meeting House on Mount Street is also marking the day with a display of Quaker peace posters.

Friends can also attend a Meeting for Worship at the Quaker Service Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, held by the Quaker Service Memorial Trust on 22 September.
