International carols for peace

Friends took part in an international carols for peace event in December

Art complemented campaigning recently, when East Cheshire Friends joined with local peace lobbyists and choirs to sing for peace.

Friends, members of Stockport for Peace and representatives of community choirs held an ‘international carols for peace’ event on Sunday 7 December.

More than eighty people sang at Stockport Art Gallery and War Memorial. The pieces included carols in English, French and German. The group also sang two rounds, Dona nobis pacem, and Da pacem, Domine, from Sing in the Spirit.

The choice of venue was apt, Peter Eccles of Cheadle Hume Meeting told the Friend. Stockport Art Gallery is currently holding an exhibition by local painter Henry Quick, inspired by seeing the battlefields of Europe.
