Friends from Bolton, Pendle Hill, Lancaster and Huddersfield were among those who took part in an interfaith week to campaign against fracking last week.

The No Faith in Fracking week at the Cuadrilla site in Preston New Road, Lancashire ran from 23-28 April.

The programme included Buddhist chanting and meditation, earth care rituals, a Catholic liturgy, a Wiccan Wellbeing Day, a walking meditation led by the Community of Interbeing and a Quaker-led silent vigil.

Cliodhna Mulhern, from Lancaster Meeting, told the Friend it was a ‘beautiful’ week: ‘Some days there was a good number of people, but even when we were a small group it was really prayerful, reflective and sometimes joyful. We’ve raised the voice and given a spiritual dimension to climate change and earth justice, and brought a peaceful presence to a destructive and sometimes tense place. I hope it’s the beginning of a movement standing up for the sacredness of life.’
