Interfaith climate prayer in Dublin
Friends attended an event organised by a new interfaith group, ‘FaithS for Climate Action’, in Dublin
Friends were among around 100 people who gathered for an interfaith climate prayer meeting in Dublin last month to show solidarity with youth climate strikers. Organised by a new interfaith group ‘FaithS for Climate Action’, representatives from faith communities in Ireland spoke at the Famine Memorial on Custom House Quay about the urgent need for climate action. The prayer also included readings from various sacred texts on the theme of caring for the earth.
Jane Mellett, an officer of Catholic overseas development agency Trócaire, said: ‘It was quite a moving event in solidarity with one another and with the young people who were gathering nearby.’ Afterwards they joined the protest.
Friends from South Belfast Meeting also took part in the climate strike on 20 September when 3,000-4,000 activists marched through the city.
