Twenty-five young people visited Geneva in July for the Quaker United Nations Office (QUNO) Summer School.

Participants at the twelve-day scheme were aged between twenty and twenty-eight and travelled to Switzerland from Palestine, the US, Britain, Australia, India, Kenya, Lesotho, Nepal and Brazil. The programme included an introduction to Quakerism and insights into Quaker methods at the United Nations (UN). Participants also attended sessions on human rights and prisons, food and sustainability, and post-conflict environmental peacebuilding.

‘The summer school programme can be an invaluable opportunity for young people who are considering a career in international affairs to gain a first-hand perspective of the work of the UN. We hope that some of the leaders of the future may be among this year’s group,’ said Daniel Cullen, programme assistant, human rights and refugees, QUNO.
