I AM
Poem by Derek Guiton
I am the adder under the stone,
I am the mouseling, wary, alone,
I am the sea-wave ready to strike,
I am that rusty clapped out bike.
I am the lie in the liar’s mouth,
I am the swallow heading south,
I am the grass that grows apace,
I am the smile on Darwin’s face.
I am the pleasure, I am the pain,
I am the sunshine, I am the rain,
I am the tiger, I am the lamb –
And yet I am Nothing. I AM THAT AM.
