Huddersfield Quakers have declared a climate emergency via Culture Declares Emergency

Huddersfield Quakers have declared a climate emergency through a new initiative that aims to provide arts and culture providers with a way of pledging to work towards a zero-carbon future. With participants able to declare as an individual or organisation via the Culture Declares Emergency website, the number of ‘declarers’ currently stands at 762. These include: Sadler’s Wells, the sculptor Antony Gormley, the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain and Manchester Art Gallery.

Quaker Chris Herring, from Huddersfield Meeting and chair of the Passivhaus Trust, told the Friend: ‘This is a really powerful movement as arts and culture are where communication happens. Our local library and theatre have declared and faith groups too. The local Hindus declared before the Quakers.’ The Culture Declares Emergency website includes a toolkit and information on how to declare.
