Housing concern continues

Threshing meeting on housing at Woodbrooke

A threshing meeting on housing took place at the Woodbroke Quaker Study Centre from 11 to 13 September.

The meeting was intending as a ‘stepping stone’ to help Friends take forward the housing session held at Yearly Meeting in May this year.

Organisers Britain Yearly Meeting described the event as ‘not a housing conference full of housing experts’, but ‘a group of Friends willing to share personal experiences and concerns and to contribute to this process of Quaker discernment’.

Participants discussed what was stopping them, individually and collectively, from taking action and considered how they might overcome these blocks.

Minute 25 from Yearly Meeting 2015 said: ‘We have been reminded that our concern for housing has a long history… It is driven by our belief that all are equally children of God and our experience that a home is essential for our spiritual wellbeing, not just for our physical and mental health.’
