Holding people in the Light

Michael Hennessey writes about ‘holding people in the Light’ and asks: what does it do?

In a minute made at our Area Meeting in October, we are ‘encouraged to again engage in the practice of observing a minute’s silence at nine o’clock each evening to hold in the Light those world leaders whose decisions will affect world peace and the future of the planet’.

Many of us say we do not engage in the intercessory prayer practised by some, in which – to risk being facetious – the Almighty is informed of a particular need and urged to do something about it, encouraged by many people all requesting action at the same time. But is what is being encouraged in the minute really very different? What do we expect to happen as a result of holding world leaders in the Light?
