Hoar frost

Hoar frost,
petrified hedgerows,
shivering, crow
alert guarding
country lanes,
hidden from all
but local view.

A tired sun
gentles the winter
mist along,
beckside,
sheep gather in tightly
knitted formation.

Whilst resting
on an icy pole,
a falcon scans
the white flatlands
for lunch,

and, finding none
he turns his gaze
to infrequent
beetling traffic.
