Friends of Hlekweni have announced a new strategy

by Tara Craig 5th June 2015

A new strategy was announced by the Friends of Hlekweni at a recent business meeting held at Milton Keynes Meeting House on 31 May.

The strategy was the result of nine months’ work, following the closure of the Hlekweni Friends Rural Service Centre in June 2014.

Lee Taylor, clerk to Friends of Hlekweni, explained that there were four strands to the new strategy: continued and extended support for more schools; funding and reporting on the UK end of the Zimbabwe Secondary Bursary scheme; the development of peacebuilding work in primary schools; and ongoing general activity including support for urgent needs, such as the Zimbabwe Food Relief Action in rural Matabeleland.

She said: ‘We are hugely grateful for the steadfast support from individuals, Meetings and grant-givers, and now have the mandate from members to renew and extend our activities. The needs remain – and after one good year of harvest, the drought has returned. We are committed to supporting education and training in Matabeleland, Zimbabwe.’
