Hiroshima day 2016
Commemorations took place
Inverness Friends were among Quakers throughout Britain who took part in events and vigils on 6 August to commemorate the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.
They supported a Justice Not War event in Inverness in which a ‘peace dove’ was placed in the River Ness during the ceremony (see picture). A poem was read by a local Friend.
Bradford Quakers held a Hiroshima exhibition during the day at the Meeting house. Elsewhere, in towns and cities, Friends engaged in different forms of peace witness.
