We are living in interesting times. The present world situation shows the worst and the best of the human experiment. Fortunately, within Britain Yearly Meeting (BYM), there is a lot happening. This includes good initiatives from Quaker Life (such as New Expressions) and Quaker Peace & Social Witness (such as the activist conference in November 2014, the Living Witness online forum on sustainability, and lively social media exchanges like ‘Transition Quaker’ and ‘Quaker Renewal’ on Facebook). Across the country we have spiritual friendship groups, Experiment with Light groups, ‘Appleseed’, Quaker Quest and the Kindlers. All these drive home the point that the ‘Quaker way’ is not just about ideas but is about experience. It is essentially practical.
