130-year-old printing company sold
Headley Brothers Limited of Ashford in Kent, printers of the Friend magazine for sixty-five years, went into administration on the morning of 2 March and a deal for the 130-year-old business was completed in the afternoon.
The new owners are Stones Ashford Limited, a newly created subsidiary of the Henry Stones Limited company, who only emerged as potential buyers for the ailing company at the end of February.
Stones Ashford purchased the business out of administration as a pre-packaged going concern. The move has secured 113 jobs at the company.
Henry Stones’ managing director Richard Walsh told PrintWeek magazine: ‘It [Headleys] has always been on our radar. It’s a well-established business producing good quality products. It gives us a fantastic offering into the marketplace and takes us into the web as well.’
Headley Brothers managing director Simon Bingham said he was delighted that the sale was concluded and the future of the business as Stones Ashford secured: ‘We can now continue to focus on our clients and their needs as we make plans to move forward.’
Headley Brothers were for many generations a Quaker firm and had been involved for over a century in printing magazines and material for the Religious Society of Friends.
