I am a natural hermit. Of the last forty-two years, I’ve shared a home for only twelve. I thrive on solitude and have developed a peculiar low-input lifestyle that few people want to share. I’m also part of a wider trend towards single-person households. There are many factors – divorce, longer life expectancy, technology and services that make it easier to live alone. Mostly, this causes higher resource use because we all have our own fridges and central heating.
