George Cadbury has been voted Birmingham’s ‘top Brummie’ in a Twitter-based vote organised by the Birmingham St Mary’s hospice.

The Quaker philanthropist and businessman has been honoured with an art installation created by the hospice. A wrought iron flower was on show at its ‘Forget Me Not’ art display from 2 to 8 April in Brindleyplace, Birmingham.

St Mary’s asked Twitter users throughout March to vote for their ‘Greatest Brummie: a local icon no longer with us who left a lasting legacy to the city’.

Over 200 Twitter users voted across three polls, with George Cadbury taking sixty-one per cent of the vote in the grand final. JRR Tolkien came second with twenty-two per cent. Woodbrooke tweeted: ‘Good to see our founder is still the favourite.’
