FWCC meets in Toronto
The Central Executive Committee of FWCC met in Toronto in June
Fifteen Friends from ten different countries came together at Canadian Yearly Meeting’s Camp NeeKauNis in Toronto last month for the annual week-long gathering of the Friends World Committee for Consultation’s (FWCC’s)Central Executive Committee (CEC).
Lee Taylor, a member of the CEC from Britain Yearly Meeting, said: ‘The themes of sustainability, addressing privilege and historical injustice – and the strong spiritual links between these – and working on engaging Young Adult Friends were all issues discussed over the week.’
Writing for The Canadian Friend, she said that all FWCC sections were represented but ‘sadly, the executive secretary of Africa Section had his visa refused and was unable to be there’.
She wrote: ‘There is an ongoing tension between our commitment to sustainability… and the kind of travel that is necessary for Friends from all parts of the world to meet face to face.’
The CEC also discussed privilege, historical injustice, and how these ‘might be more widely examined in our world family’. She said: ‘It was fascinating to learn about what is happening in Sections to “cross bridges”. We heard about the Young Adult Development Fund projects in Africa, and between EMES and Section of the Americas.’
