FWCC meets in Moyallon
FWCC representatives took part in a residential meeting at The Moyallon Centre in Northern Ireland last week
Sixteen representatives of the Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC) took part in a residential meeting at The Moyallon Centre in Northern Ireland last week.
The centre adjoins the Moyallon Meeting House in County Armagh and for several of the participants the event offered a first glimpse of Ireland.
Rwandan Friend and clerk of the Africa Section of FWCC David Bucura told the Friend that much of the meeting focused on the challenges surrounding the next International Representatives Meeting (IRM). This will take place in Arequipa, Peru, from 12 to 20 January 2016.
‘We had to think about fundraising,’ he said. ‘Quakers from developing countries can’t afford the plane tickets. We had to think about how we could help them attend.’
Countries whose participants struggle to cover travel costs will be subsidised by FWCC, although they will be responsible for their own visa and internal travel costs, along with the registration fee, which will be in the region of £250.
A particular concern, David added, was that the costs would be harder for young Friends to cover. FWCC is especially keen to see younger Quakers in Peru, he said.
The Africa, Asia-West Pacific, Europe & Middle East and Americas sections were all represented in Moyallon. David said that he enjoyed his time there and the opportunity to see local farming at work.
