Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC) has furloughed two members of its five-strong staff due to the coronavirus outbreak. Gretchen Castle, FWCC general secretary, told the Friend that the staff were furloughed from the World Office as ‘the work of booking flights and updating information dwindled’.

She added: ‘One consultant is working and billing less. Three of us continue to connect with Friends from our homes. With a plethora of Zoom calls, I would hardly call it isolated. Working with our governing body, we have developed several new areas of work to help Friends through this time. They will be posted on the World Office website as the work takes shape.

‘As I am in touch with Friends around the world, I ask you to hold all Friends in God’s care, as we all do our best to adapt to what our contexts require to keep each other and ourselves safe. Many are suffering from food and medicine shortages, from economic hardship, and from the death of loved ones. God be with us all. Let us remember that our prayers are powerful.’
