Friends visit Congo Quakers
Three Friends have visited Quaker projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo
Three Friends from the Quaker Congo Partnership UK recently visited the Quaker community in South Kivu despite advice from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office not to visit the Democratic Republic of Congo.
They all returned safely, enthused by the wonderful welcome they received in Abeka and Uvira, and also from meeting Friends in Burundi.
The Friends who travelled were Catherine Putz, Halifax Area Meeting, Margaret Gregory, Manchester and Warrington Area Meeting and Paul Simon, Worcester and Shropshire Area Meeting.
Margaret Gregory said: ‘We were really well looked after and found ourselves with a group of people who are living their faith with joy and helping their communities in circumstances which are often very difficult. The quality of the people working, their dedication, and their deep spirituality were inspiring.’
