Friends uphold Liverpool Quaker in climate trial

Liverpool Quakers are upholding a local Friend on trial for climate witness this week.
Amy Pritchard is one of five women from Extinction Rebellion (XR) on trial for breaking glass at JP Morgan’s European HQ on 1 September 2021.
Other Quakers joined the ‘Defend Our Juries’ witness at the Inner London Crown Court from 19 February. The trial is expected to last two weeks.
Margaret Smith, from Liverpool Meeting, who attended some of the trial, appealed to Friends ‘who are able, to be there in person to witness the trial and support the crowdfunder being used to pay for their legal support’.
The judge, Silas Reid, has previously banned defendants from talking about their motivations. Last year he sentenced Amy Pritchard, alongside two others, to prison for breaching this ruling during a trial relating to Insulate Britain’s campaign on the M25.
