Friends to witness at arms fair

A silent vigil will be held before DSEi

by Tara Craig 4th September 2015

Quakers will hold a silent vigil on the evening before DSEi (Defence and Security Equipment International), the world’s largest arms fair, in London.

The candlelit vigil, on Monday 14 September, is the first in a series of activities involving Friends. Details of all protests can be found on the Britain Yearly Meeting website.

DSEi runs from 15 to 18 September at ExCel, in London’s Docklands area. It takes place every two years. A number of Friends were arrested during peaceful protests at the 2013 event.

Thirty-two thousand visitors and 1,500 exhibitors are expected this year. DSEi is sponsored by the Ministry of Defence and UK Trade and Investment.
